Discussion of the week: Is Cross-Channel Tracking Dead or Just Evolving?

Over the past few years, one question keeps coming back in product and growth conversations: Can we still truly understand the user journey across channels?

With increasing privacy regulations, browser restrictions, and user awareness, the traditional idea of tracking users across devices, platforms, and sessions is slowly breaking down. But the need hasn’t gone away.

From marketer, Product manager and Business owner perspective the question is same that was centuries ago.

“How should I distribute my money across channels to get maximum value/revenue?”

The Reality Today:

Modern user journeys are more complex than it looks like. A single user might:

  • Discover you via LinkedIn
  • Visit your site on mobile
  • Return later via Google on desktop
  • Convert after clicking an email

In the past, we relied heavily on: Cookies, Device fingerprinting, Cross-site tracking.

Now, much of that is either restricted or unreliable. So the question becomes:

👉 Are we measuring the journey or just fragments of it?
