North Star Metric
The single metric that best captures the value a product delivers to customers, used to align the whole team on what success means. A good one moves when customers get value, not just when the company earns more.
Example: For a team collaboration tool, revenue is a result, not a North Star. "Weekly active teams that complete at least one shared project" reflects real value. If it rises, revenue usually follows; if it falls, revenue will too, just later.
